Butternut Squash

Growers: Gid’s Produce, Blue Goose Farm and Pucker Brush Farm

Store: Store squash in a cool, well-ventilated area for up to three months. Wrap cut pieces in plastic and refrigerate for up to five days.

Celebration Squash

Grower: Gid’s Produce

Store: Store squash in a cool, well-ventilated area for up to three months. Wrap cut pieces in plastic and refrigerate for up to five days.

Recipe: Grilled Honey Acorn Squash, Brown Sugar and Mustard Glazed Acorn Squash, Sausage and Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash

 

Celeriac

Grower: Blue Goose Farm, Clarion River Organics (Daniel Miller Farm)**

Store: Refrigerate unwashed and covered for up to a week.

Recipe: Garlic and Herb Celeriac Fries, Potato and Celery Root Rosti, Zombie Brain

 

Potatoes, white

Grower: Blue Goose Farm

Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated space for weeks. Don’t store in the refrigerator as it causes the starches to turn to sugar.

Idared Apples

Grower: Kistaco Farm

Store: Refrigerate apples in the crisper in a plastic bag with holes in it. Use up old or damaged apples and store apples separately as the ethylene gas they produce can help speed up the decay process of other fruits and vegetables.

Curly Parsley

Grower: Gid’s Produce

Store: To store, snip off the ends and place in a jar with a small amount of water for up to a week. If storing in the refrigerator, store in jar with water with a plastic bag over top.

Carrots

Grower: Clarion River Organics (Daniel Lengacher Farm)**

Store: Carrots can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a month if stored properly. Cut off carrot greens, place carrots in a containers with lid and cover completely in water. Keep container in the refrigerator, changing the water ever 4-5 days.

Arugula

Grower: Clarion River Organics (Riverbend Acres)**

Store: Wash and dry arugula. Lay on paper towels, roll up and place into a plastic bag. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Change paper towel when wet.

Recipe: Arugula and Apple Salad, Arugula Pesto, Brie, Apple, Arugula Quesadilla

 

Bell or Anaheim Peppers

Grower: Grow Pittsburgh or Clarion River Organics (Matthew Schwartz Farm)**

Store: Place fresh peppers in a brown paper bag in the crisper section of the refrigerator. Peppers will store well for up to a week.

Bok Choy

Grower: Clarion River Organics (Riverbend Acres)**

Store: Store Bok Choy in a plastic bag in the crisper section of the refrigerator for up to a week. Wash before serving. 

Recipe: Bok Choy, Carrot and Apple Slaw, Sesame Ginger Carrot Noodle Stir-Fry with Bok Choy and Crispy Tofu, Roasted Garlic Bok Choy

 

Homesteader Cheese

Grower: Pasture Maid Creamery

Store: Store in the refrigerator for up to four weeks. 

Recipe: Philly Cheese Steak Stuffed Bell Peppers, Cheese Crisps, Sausage Cheese Scones

 

Swiss Chard (Vegans)

Grower: Crighton Farm

Store: Do not wash chard before storage. Place chard in a plastic bag with no air in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
