Winter CSA Week #2

Chive and Onion Chevre  – River View Dairy

Apple Butter – Kistaco Farm

*Items from Clarion River Organics are certified organic

Members will receive EITHER Daikon Radishes or Green Meat Radishes in their shares, and EITHER Butternut Squash or Acorn Squash in their shares.

Vegan Shares will receive Japanese Garlic Chives from Harmony Grove Farm, Carrots from Blue Goose Farm, and Greek Oregano from Crighton Farm.


Eggs

Grower: Jarosinski Farm

Store :Eggs should not be stored on the refrigerator door, but in the main body of the refrigerator to ensure that they keep a consistent and cool temperature.

Recipe: Spicy Eggs and Potatoes, Soft and Creamy Scrambled Eggs, Egg Drop Soup

 

Hydroponic Lettuce

Grower: Harmony Grove Farm

Store: Leave the heads intact and unwashed until you use them. Then, place them in the crisper drawer in your fridge with some paper towels.They’ll absorb any excess moisture, so your lettuce doesn’t spoil prematurely.  Lettuce bruises easily, so be careful not to shove other foods up against it. Using a storage container is better than a bag, which can end up squished against other items.

Celebration Squash

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Store squash in a cool, well-ventilated area for up to three months. Wrap cut pieces in plastic and refrigerate for up to five days.

Recipe: Slow Cooker or Baked Celebration Squash, Roasted Maple Walnut Celebration Squash, Slow Cooker or Baked Celebration Squash

 

Acorn Squash

Grower: Kistaco Farm

Store: Store squash in a cool, well-ventilated area for up to three months. Wrap cut pieces in plastic and refrigerate for up to five days.

Recipe:Classic Baked Acorn Squash, Sausage and Apple Stuffed Acorn, Roasted Parmesan Acorn

 

Butternut Squash

Grower: Pucker Brush Farm

Store: Store squash in a cool, well-ventilated area for up to three months. Wrap cut pieces in plastic and refrigerate for up to five days.

Recipe: Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash, Garlic Herb Butternut Squash

 

Rome Apples

Grower: Dawson’s Orchards 

Store: Refrigerate apples in the crisper in a plastic bag with holes in it. Use up old or damaged apples and store apples separately as the ethylene gas they produce can help speed up the decay process of other fruits and vegetables.

Celeriac

Grower: Blue Goose Farm

Store: Refrigerate unwashed and covered for up to a week.

Recipe: Celeriac Soup, Celery Root & Beet Salad, Celery Root & Potato Latkes

 

 

Magic Molly Potatoes

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Store in a cool, well ventilated place

Recipe: Baked Potato Chips, Vegan Purple Potato Salad, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

 

Red Onions

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store:Store in a cool, well ventilated place

Recipe: Balsamic Onions, Roasted Red Onions, Red Onion Rings

 

Daikon Radish

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Refrigerate in plastic bag in the crisper drawer

Recipe: Daikon Radish Salad, Braised Daikon Radish, Pickled Daikon Radish

Green Meat Radish

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Refrigerate in plastic bag in the crisper drawer

Garlic

Store: Store in a cool, dark, well-ventilated area

Apple Butter

Grower: Kistaco Farm

Store: Store in pantry, once opened store in refrigerator and use within 2 weeks.

Onion and Chive Chevre

Grower: River View Dairy

Store: Store in refrigerator

Recipe: Butternut Squash and Goat Cheese Pasta, Garlic & Goat Cheese Potato Gratin
