Please take a minute to read through our CSA Member Agreement to familiarize yourself with our policies. We will highlight a few of our policies below.
What to Expect
By purchasing a CSA share you have made an investment in our farmers. In return for your investment you will receive a weekly (or biweekly) box of fresh, high quality, locally grown and locally produced items. If you are receiving your CSA starting in the Spring you can expect the produce in your box to be supplemented nearly each week with other value added items like apple cider, organic grains, local cheese, honey, maple syrup, and jarred items like chopped tomatoes and rhubarb jam! We will supplement the produce in your box likely for the first 8-12 weeks of the CSA until more produce becomes available from our growers.
Every week on Thursdays you will receive a preview email letting you know what will be in the following week’s shares. Please make sure you check or spam or promotions folder for this email if you don’t see it in your inbox (the email will come from email@example.com)! The email will be sent in the afternoon, and you will have until 5pm on Thursday to place you share on hold for the following week (read below for information about holds). We will also publish the preview on our blog. Go to our Weekly Share Guide to view the blog for each week.
On the day of your CSA delivery (read below for delivery dates and times) we will deliver your CSA shares to your selected pickup location and you are able to go and pick it up during the time frame specified. If you have ordered a Tote Bag from us, we will deliver that with your first share. You can empty the contents of the box into your tote bag and leave the box at your location. If you are taking the box with you, please return it to your location the next time you go to pick up. Even if you have not ordered a tote bag from us, we encourage you to bring your own tote bag to pickup your items so you don’t have to take the box with you. Please respect the space of our site hosts and stack your box neatly! If you are running late please let Penn’s Corner or your site host know. Please note, we do not guarantee your share will be available outside of the designated pickup window.
We understand there may be some weeks where you will need to put your share on hold because you will be unable to get it. All vacation hold requests must be submitted by Thursdays at 5pm for the following week! Members are allowed three vacation holds per year. Please follow these steps to place your share on hold:
- Login to your Account
- Once you are logged in, click on Subscriptions, on the left hand side of your screen (you should be on your account information page).
- Click on the subscription you would like to put on hold (please note if you have any add on shares you will need to put those on hold as well!)
- Click on Put Subscription on Hold
- Enter the date range you would like your share to be on hold. The first date in the range should be the Thursday prior to the week you would like your share on hold and the last date in the range should be the last day you want your share on hold. For instance, if you want your share held for April 24th, enter the range April 18th-April 24th. Please note, all customer holds must be submitted by Thursdays at 5pm! Any customer who places a hold after the deadline will not be entitled to a makeup share.
- If you need to request a vacation hold less than 7 days in advance (but still within the deadline!) you must email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Customers who place their hold on time have a couple of options to make up a share they miss. You can elect to receive a double share (two boxes) with your next CSA delivery. You can also chose to use the value of that week’s share as a credit on our Online Farm Stand (read more about the farm stand below). Please note, the Farm Stand is not available at every location. If you have a biweekly share you can elect to receive your share on an off week.
You must email email@example.com immediately after placing your vacation hold to inform us of how you would like to makeup your share.
If you are signed up for a produce share please take note on whether you are signed up for a Small or Standard share. Regular small and standard shares will be in either a brown or white cardboard box (see below). Organic small and standard shares will be in either a white or brown wax box and will have an “Organic Share” sticker on them. Please do not take a box that does not correspond with your share type!!
Small Shares will contain 5-8 items each week and will be at your pickup location in a white box labeled “Small Share” like the one pictured below. Please note, the small share box is the same physical size as the standard share box. But it is easy to distinguish as it is white and says “Small Share” on all four sides.
Standard Shares will contain 6-10 items each week and will be at your pickup location in a brown cardboard box like the one pictured below.
If you have selected that you would like a Vegan or Gluten Free share your box will be labeled with a sticker that says Vegan or Gluten Free. If you are supposed to receive a small Gluten Free or Vegan Share your share will be in one of the Small Share boxes and there will be a sticker on it that indicates Vegan or Gluten Free. If you are supposed to receive a standard size Gluten Free or Vegan share, your share will be in a standard size box with a sticker labeled Vegan or Gluten Free.
Organic Small Shares will be in a white wax box with a sticker that says Organic on it, like the one pictured below.
Organic Standard Shares will be in a brown wax box with a sticker that says Organic on it, like the one pictured below.
Please break down the wax boxes and leave them at the pickup site when you leave!
Egg and Cheese shares will be in a cooler at your pickup location. Your eggs and cheese will be labeled with your name on them. Please pay attention when you are picking up your eggs and cheese and do not take any that do not have your name on them!
Flower Shares will be in a box or bucket at your location. Please open the box and take the bouquet with your name on it.
Please do not take a bouquet that does not have your name on it, or take the bucket/box home!
If you are signed up for a biweekly share you have either been assigned to pickup on the ODD or EVEN weeks. You will receive an email with your biweekly share information in it. If you don’t see that email, you can login to your account to see which week you are assigned to. Your subscription will either say ODD or EVEN at the end.
If you are assigned to the ODD weeks you will pick up your share on weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. If you are assigned to the EVEN weeks you will pick up your share on weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.
Please do not go to pickup your share on a week that does not correspond to your assignment unless you have made alternate arrangements to do so! When you take a share on a week that is not your scheduled week to pick up someone else misses out on their share for that week!
To help you keep track of the biweekly schedule we have created calendars for you! We suggest putting the weeks you are scheduled to pickup in your calendar at the beginning of the season so you never forget!
Please click here for the pickup hours of all our CSA Locations. You can also view the specific information for your pickup location (day, time, pickup instructions, host information) by logging into your account! Once you login click on Subscriptions on the left hand side of the page, then click on the subscription you would like to view the pickup information for. Your location information will be on that page.
Please note, occasionally our drivers hit unexpected delays causing us to be late to your pickup location. We will do our best to communicate any delays in a timely manner via email. If you arrive to your pickup location and your share is not there please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 724-840-1672.
When picking up your share please put a check mark next to your name on the pickup list at your location. If your name is not on the list please call us at 724-840-1672! Do not take a share if your name is not on the list!
Online Farm Stand
Did you know you can supplement your share with items found on our Online Farm Stand? We carry local produce, cheese, milk, eggs, organic grains, pasture raised meats, and more on the Farm Stand! Ordering is open every week from Mondays at 1pm to Fridays at 12pm, and your order will be delivered the following week to apickup location.
While many of the CSA locations are also Farm Stand locations, not every location is. If you pick up your CSA at location that does not offer farm stand, please login to your account and change your default location to view and order farm stand at a different location. (This will not affect where your CSA is delivered). Click here to view our Farm Stand locations.
If you would like to use the value of any shares you put on hold on the Online Farm Stand you must indicate that in the order notes when you place an order! Otherwise your credit card will be charged. Once your card is charged we cannot go back and apply credits from your vacation hold. So please indicate in the order notes that you would like to apply your CSA credits from your vacation hold to the order. You can also email us that information as well!
Please read through our Member Agreement to familiarize yourself with our policies! A few of our policies are highlighted below. Please note there will be no exceptions to our policies that are in the Member Agreement.
All CSA members are entitled to cancel their share in the case of financial hardship, relocation or unresolved lack of satisfaction (unsatisfied customers are asked to allow Penn’s Corner to attempt to correct a problem before requesting a cancellation). A prorated refund will be issued, less a $50.00 administrative fee. All cancellations will be charged the $50 fee, no matter the circumstance. Penn’s Corner requires two weeks notice to process cancellations. Cancellations must be received by e-mail (email@example.com; ATTN: CANCEL). Cancellation requests will be confirmed with an email. If you do not receive a confirmation please contact us.
Missing Item Policy
If an item is missing from your share or if an item is of poor quality you will receive a credit on your account or a replacement item. In order to receive a credit or a replacement item you must email firstname.lastname@example.org within 24 hours of your allotted pick-up time. If we do not receive notice of a missing item or quality issues within 24 hours of your allotted pick-up time we will not replace the item(s).
Missed Pickup Policy
All members must pickup their share within the time frame allotted. Many hosts are able to hold onto unclaimed shares for a day or two but none of them are required to do so. If you miss your pickup we cannot replace your share for you. You may reach out directly to your host and see if your share is still available.
Vacation Hold Policy
All CSA members are able to schedule vacation holds during the season if there is a week in which they will not be able to pick up their share. A member is limited to three vacation holds each year. Vacation holds must be submitted by Thursday at 5pm for the following week. You can chose to receive a double share the following week or use the value of your held share to shop the Online Farm Stand. If you are biweekly you can elect to receive your share on a different week. You must email email@example.com to let us know what you would like to do with your held share. If no request is received we will the balance on your account will remain active until the end of the calendar year. After the year ends the balance on your account will no longer be available. If you would like to use the value of your held share to shop the Online Farm Stand, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to indicate that is your preference. When you place your order you must indicate in the order notes that you want to use the value of your held share as payment. You can only use up to the value of any shares you have held, if your Farm Stand order is beyond that dollar amount your credit card will be charged for the remainder of the balance.
