Grower: Nu Way Farm

Store: Basil should really avoid the fridge. Give them a fresh cut on the ends and leave them in water on the counter top (out of direct sunlight)

Grower: Kistaco Farm 

Store: Store peaches at room temperature until ripe. Refrigerating peaches before they are ripe can lead to loss of flavor and texture. After they ripen on the counter top, place them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.

Grower: Weeping Willow Farm

Store: Store unwashed (or washed and dried) peppers in the refrigerator in a loosely closed plastic bag. Moisture is a pepper’s enemy and hastens spoiling. For peak flavor and nutrition, use within a week.

Store: Store unwashed (or washed and dried) peppers in the refrigerator in a loosely closed plastic bag. Moisture is a pepper’s enemy and hastens spoiling. For peak flavor and nutrition, use within a week.

Store: Rinse and dry the leaves before refrigerating. Wrap them in a paper towel and store them in a plastic bag.

ArugulaArugula **As a result of the recent hot weather, this arugula has gotten very spicy. Cooking it will help reduce the spiciness. 

Grower: Nu Way Farm

Store: Rinse and dry the leaves before refrigerating. Line a plastic storage container with paper towels. Dump in the leaves in an even layer on top, add more leaves and cover until the box is full but not jam packed.

Store: Keep in a cool, dry place.

ZucchiniZucchini

Grower: Weeping Willow Farm

Store:  Refrigerate. Store freshly picked, unwashed zucchini in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to one week. The bag should be perforated or loosely tied, not sealed tightly. Do not cut the zucchini until you are ready to use it or freeze it.

Store: Refrigerate yellow squash and zucchini, unwashed, in a plastic bag in the vegetable drawer.

Store: Store in the refrigerator unshucked and in a bag.

nectarinesNectarines

Grower: Dawson’s Orchards

Store: Store peaches and nectarines at room temperature until ripe — this usually takes 2 to 3 days. A ripe fruit will yield a bit when pressed gently. To speed up the ripening process, place nectarines or peaches in a paper bag and store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight.

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Store unwashed fresh beans in a reusable container or plastic bag in the refrigerator crisper. Whole beans stored this way should keep for about seven days. Freezing Green Beans: Rinse your green beans in cool water and then drain. Cut the ends of the beans off and then cut the beans to whatever length you prefer.
