Summer is finally here – yippee! Welcome to Week 1 of our Summer CSA. We hope you enjoy this week’s harvest. Please remember to always wash your produce before eating it.

Store: Refrigerate roots unwashed in a plastic bag.

Recipe: Glazed Hakurei Turnips (Bella Luna turnips can be utilized the same way as Hakurei turnips), Hakurei Turnip Saute with Ginger, Carrots and Sugar Snap Peas

Grower: Nu Way Farm

Store: Line a plastic storage container with paper towels. Dump in the lettuce in an even layer on top, add more lettuce and cover until the box is full but not jam packed.

Store: Rinse and dry the leaves before refrigerating. Line a plastic storage container with paper towels. Dump in the leaves in an even layer on top, add more leaves and cover until the box is full but not jam packed.

Grower: Nu Way Farm, Sunny Meadow Farm or Hostetler Farm

Store: Wrap fresh rhubarb in plastic, put it in the refrigerator, and don’t wash it until you’re ready to use it.

Store: Wrap in a damp paper towel, cover with plastic and store them in the vegetable crisper.

Store:  Refrigerate after opening.

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Store your pac choi in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator — unwashed and in a perforated plastic bag. When you do use it, remember that its cluster of stalks hides dirt, so wash it well.

ZucchiniZucchini

Grower: Clarion River Organics

Store: Store freshly picked, unwashed zucchini in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to one week. The bag should be perforated or loosely tied, not sealed tightly. Do not cut the zucchini until you are ready to use it or freeze.

**This week’s Cheese CSA members will receive a piece of Buttercup cheese from Hidden Hills Dairy. Buttercup is a soft, creamy, buttery cheese that’s delicious as it is and melts beautifully on burgers or grilled cheese sandwiches.
