200341648-001D’anjou Pears

Grower: Dawson’s Orchards

Store: Pears will continue to ripen off the tree (indeed, they really have to ripen off the tree to avoid a woody texture). So if your pears are a little green and firm, just leave them at room temperature and they’ll finish up nicely. Then you can refrigerate them.

jonathanJonagold Apple

Grower: Kistaco Farm

Store: Keep them in the crisper drawer with a damp paper towel, or else keep them in perforated plastic bags in a cold shed or cellar.

Apples give off a lot of ethylene gas, and so just one bruised and rotting apple will give off enough to swiftly ripen (and rot) the others. If you have any bruises or soft spots on an apple, set it aside for eating. Don’t store with the other apples.
