Kistaco Farm is looking for help with this year’s harvest!

Kistaco Farm is a third generation diversified fruit and vegetable farm located near Spring Church, PA.  We are about 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh.  We grow 24 varieties of apples, press our own fresh cider each fall, harvest blueberries and strawberries, grow many common and interesting vegetable crops, and we operate a roadside farm market year-round and attend weekly farmers markets.  We are looking for people to help us pick apples this fall, September – November 2014.

Apple picking is a strenuous job.  We work 5 days a week (MondayFriday) 8am until 4pm. Workers must be physically fit and have a strong work ethic: able to repeatedly lift/carry 40-50 pounds, climb a ladder on a frequent basis, squat and bend repeatedly, be careful handling fresh produce, and work in all weather conditions (although we won’t work in extremes of thunder, lightning, torrential rain, etc.).  Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to receive on-the-job training and feedback “on the fly” as we carry out day-to-day operations.  Must be timely, and able to work quickly and efficiently while balancing an attention to detail.  Must have your own transportation.  You will report directly to the farm owner/manager.  Farm work experience is preferred, but not required.

Pay is $8/hour for farm labor; apple pickers are paid by the bushel picked.  Opportunities for winter work, longer term employment can be discussed if we see exceptional performance.  If interested, please email with a letter of introduction, including your availability and references.
