Store:  Keep broccoli in the refrigerator in a perforated plastic bag to provide air circulation.

Recipe:  Roasted Broccoli with Garlic

Store:  Keep in an airtight container in the fridge.

Uses:  Eat raw, steam or stir fry.

Nu Way Farm

Garlic Scapes, Clubhouse Gardens, Crighton’s Farm or Blackberry Meadows

Store:  Garlic scapes will keep for about 3 weeks in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.  They can also be chopped and frozen in plastic freezer bags.

Uses:  Though scapes are milder than regular garlic they can be substituted for garlic in any recipe.  They can also be added to salads and eaten raw.

New Potatoes

Nu Way Farm

Store:  Place new potatoes in a paper bag in a dark place and use quickly.  Because they’re new potatoes they haven’t been cured and won’t last as long as storage potatoes.

Store:   Place dry, unwashed chard in an airtight plastic bag in your refrigerator.  If the chard begins to wilt, submerge the wilted greens in cold water and keep in the refrigerator overnight.

Store:  Place kale in an airtight bag in the refrigerator.

Uses:  Eat raw in salads, saute, add to soups or bake into kale chips.

Store:  Keep strawberries in the refrigeratorDo not wash berries until you’re ready to use them.

Red or Green Butterhead Lettuce

Store:  Place dry, unwashed lettuce in an airtight plastic bag in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator.  If you notice that the lettuce is wet, pat dry before storage or place a paper towel around the lettuce inside the bag.

Store:  Place zucchini in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.  It should stay fresh for at least 4 – 5 days.

Store:  Keep fennel in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.  Uses quickly to avoid losing flavor.

Uses:  Chop stems and bulb and sauté, steam, braise, or add to soups. Enjoy raw in salads, with fresh vegetables or dips. The greenery can be snipped and used as garnish.
